Instructor Biography:
After a career as a biologist at Southern Oregon University, Darlene Southworth began painting with watercolor: landscapes, plants and animals, still lifes, and abstractions. Because she travels and hikes in the southwest deserts and in the Pacific Northwest, she found that small bound watercolor journals worked to keep the story together and create memories. A book and pen fit in a pocket or small pack. Other materials, paints, brushes, water cup, etc., fit easily in a bag within a daypack.
She has taught beginning watercolor and watercolor travel journaling at the Ashland Art Center, at Sunnyvale Library (CA) and at South Burlington Library (VT). In June 2017 she was Artist-in-Residence at the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in southern Oregon. She maintains a working studio in Ashland and continues to fill travel journals.
