04/15-16 Backpacking & Outdoor Skills 101
Learn the basics of when, where, and how to backpack! We’ll cover everything you need to confidently head outside with your house on your back, including: preparation, foundational outdoor skills, gear choices, way-finding, camp site selection and set up, maximizing safety/dealing with emergencies, and how to practice Leave-No-Trace. Gain a solid introduction through a provided video primer, then get hands-on instruction from an expert backpacker during a weekend overnight at SFI, where you can practice your skills on the ground.
Field day is Easy-Moderate (up to 1 mile of hiking per day, with pack).
Families/Kids 12+ encouraged! (Minors must be accompanied by an adult.)
✷ Younger may be approved by instructor depending on experience.
✷ Sliding scale pricing is available for families with children under 18, please pay what you can!
✷ Some gear items are available for loan from SFI, contact adventure@thesfi.org for more information.
