Rare Lichens of Oregon

Photos of Pannaria malmei, Umbilicaria phaea var. coccinea and Letharia gracilis by Scot Loring.

Instructor: Scot Loring, Ph.D.
Date: Saturday-Sunday, September 16-17, 2017
Location: SFI
Tuition: $150

Oregon is home to many rare and sensitive lichen species. Many are also of conservation concern in adjacent states. Come and explore their uniqueness and beauty in both the field and lab with an author of the recently published book Rare Lichens of Oregon. Learn how to identify them in the classroom and view local sites in the nearby mountains and valleys of the Klamath-Siskiyou region. Specimens covering the vast majority of species included in the book will be on hand for examination. Thousands of photos not included in the book will also be availablento participants. We will also cover some species in the recently published companion, Rare Bryophytes of Oregon.
