Frontal Watersheds of the Coast Range
Instructor: Larry Basch, Ph.D.
Date: Sunday, May 14, 2017
Location: Meet at Port Orford Visitor Center
We will explore unique physical, biological, historic and other interrelated aspects of one of the most rugged parts of the southern Oregon Wild Rivers coast. During our journey, we’ll follow rivers and their tributaries from deep in the coast range to the beach in Curry County. Students will become familiar with the land- and seascape, and some of the processes and human actions that have shaped this coastal ecoregion. Our observations will take place in a variety of field habitats. The class will discuss local issues, conflicts and attitudes influencing the current and future form, function, interactions, survival, distribution and uses of natural resources by wildlife, coastal tribes and communities.
