A Serpentine Short Course
Instructor: John Roth
Date: Saturday, April 29, 2017
In this one-day course, we’ll gain an overview of serpentine ecology, learning why the Klamath Geologic Province has the largest exposed outcrop of serpentine minerals in the western hemisphere and perhaps the most concentrated set of ultramafic rocks of any province. We will visit the serpentine fen and Jeffrey Pine savanna at SFI to observe how our region’s concentration of ultramafic rocks and unique serpentine soils impacts plants, fungi, animals and microbes.
