SFI in the Classroom
SnowSchool in the Classroom:
Teachers can opt to enter their class in a snowpack prediction contest! This is an exciting and effective way to connect the SnowSchool field experience to classroom activities. They can also arrange an in-class visit by an SFI instructor to go over introductory material with their class. Teachers will have access to snow telemetry (SNOTEL) site data that is customized to our local watershed.
SNOTEL collects snow pack and weather data throughout the winter season. As a classroom tool, it can provide historical data and interpret snow pack patterns. By analyzing watershed data, students hypothesize what the greatest snow depth and snow water equivalency numbers will be for the upcoming winter season. The class predicting closest to the real numbers at the end of the season wins a pizza party!
